Outcome – Development Roadmap and Technical Direction

Introduction

Outcome is an open-source writing platform developed by the Scriptony Foundation to support serious, long-term creative work.

This page describes the development roadmap, technical priorities, and guiding principles behind Outcome’s evolution.
The roadmap is not time-based. Progress is measured by stability, compatibility, and reliability, not by fixed release dates.

This page serves as a reference document for the community and for participatory processes related to Outcome.

Phase 1 – Fundamentals and Stability

Versions v0.1.0 → v1.0.0

The first development phase focuses on building a stable and durable foundation.

During this phase, Outcome is developed as a general writing environment, suitable for long-term use and future expansion into specialized writing workflows.

Core focus areas

  • Basic writing and editing tools

  • Grammar and language checking

  • Marking, annotations, and highlights

  • Versioning and change history

  • Snippets and reusable content inside project works

  • Import and export functionality

  • A stable and forward-compatible project file format

v1.0.0 milestone

Version v1.0.0 is defined by quality and stability, not by a calendar date.

The project will only reach v1.0.0 when:

  • The project file format is stable and future-proof

  • Core features behave reliably across updates

  • Long-term compatibility is ensured

No release date is committed at this stage.

Phase 2 – Writing Workflows

Once the foundation is stable, development expands into structured writing workflows.

Main line (highest priority)

  • Novel writing

  • Script and screenplay writing

The main line represents Outcome’s primary direction and will always remain the top priority.

Side lines

  • Essay writing (first side line)

After one side line is established, additional writing forms may follow, such as:

  • Poetry

  • Diary or journal writing

  • Other structured literary formats

All side lines build on the same stable foundation.

Phase 3 – Literature and Advanced Writing Tools

Alongside writing workflows, Outcome will gradually introduce advanced literature-focused tools.

These tools support deeper creative, analytical, and structural work, while preserving Outcome’s core principle:
writing remains the central activity.

Community Participation

At this stage, community participation focuses on:

  • Reviewing the roadmap and development direction

  • Providing constructive feedback

  • Identifying missing fundamentals or long-term risks

This page does not represent a feature voting or decision-making mechanism.
Dedicated participatory processes are used to gather discussion and feedback where appropriate.

Guiding Principle

Fundamentals first. Stability before expansion. Creativity built on solid ground.
