This page outlines how the Scriptony Foundation plans to organise, operate, and fund its server infrastructure. The information is shared for transparency and accountability and intentionally excludes any sensitive or security-related details.

At this stage, the plan is provided as a working draft.
No voting, approval, or formal decision is requested during this phase.

1. Purpose of the infrastructure

This infrastructure is designed to support the Scriptony Foundation’s public services, governance platforms, internal operations, and open-source community tools.

The infrastructure follows these principles:

  • Separation of services

  • Predictable and transparent costs

  • Responsible use of donated funds

  • Security by design (without public disclosure of sensitive details)

  • Scalability as usage grows

2. Logical service separation (high-level)

Each major service is hosted on a separate VPS, ensuring isolation, reliability, and easier maintenance.

No internal hostnames, IP addresses, credentials, or operational details are published.

3. Infrastructure model

  • Each service runs on its own VPS

  • Services are logically and operationally separated

  • Backups are handled independently from live servers

  • Infrastructure is designed to be replaceable and recoverable

This approach reduces risk and avoids single points of failure.

4. Cost overview (estimated)

The following costs are estimates intended for transparency and planning purposes.

VPS servers

  • £5 / month per VPS

  • £1 / month per VPS for backup storage

  • £6 / month per VPS total

With multiple services hosted separately, costs scale linearly and predictably.

Backup storage (off-site)

  • Object storage (S3-compatible): £18 / month

  • Used for encrypted backups of critical services

  • Independent from VPS providers

Estimated monthly infrastructure cost (summary)

  • VPS services: depends on number of active services

  • Central backup storage: £18 / month

  • Total cost is reviewed periodically by the Foundation Board

5. Governance and oversight

  • Infrastructure planning and execution are overseen by the Scriptony Foundation Board

  • Costs are monitored as part of the foundation’s financial governance

  • Major changes are documented and published transparently
